Heirloom replicas for Gallery Heronswood

Heirloom replicas at Gallery Heronswood

Using mature produce grown from heirloom seeds in our trial gardens as models, resin artist Peter Revelman from Paradoxx Molding fashioned moulds to replicate original produce such as pumpkins, melons, tomatoes, capsicums, eggplants and cucumbers.

Karen Lloyd-Jones was commissioned in 2013 to paint the magical display of 90 life size models.  The beautifully crafted replicas reflect as closely as possible the accurate size, scale, colour and variations of the actual fruit and vegetables that are grown on The Diggers Foundation trials site.

The display aims to produce a year round exhibition of heirloom vegetables and seeds that will tell the story of how our lives depend on seeds. It enlightens visitors and enthusiastic gardeners about the science, politics and economics of seeds and provides inspiration to gardeners to grow their own diverse range of edibles in their gardens. The painted models provide the same 3D snapshot as Schomburk's papier-mache models created in 1881.
