Establishment of the Diggers Preservation Garden (DPG)

In 2006, a 20 acre property in Dromana was purchased by the Blazey family with a view to creating the Diggers Preservation Garden (“DPG”) ensuring The Diggers Club heirlooms could be grown forever. The production nursery, offices and dispatch arms of the business were relocated from Heronswood and the transformation of the site from an existing wholesale nursery to Diggers trial and production headquarters was undertaken in 2007.

The comprehensive DPG site features an arboretum, seed trial gardens, collection gardens containing rare varieties and Diggers mother stock, propagation tunnels, production nursery and composting rows. Committed to ecologically sound practices and sustainable principles, all living waste generated by Diggers is recycled on site to produce compost for use at each of our gardens.

Our extensive trials at DPG continue to inform and guide the selection of the Diggers product range, based on scientifically collected data to ensure the best varieties of both edibles and ornamentals are identified and preserved for future generations.
